2003 Ceidl Muschelfelder
I’ve recently gotten much more interested in the red wines of Austria and less so with the white wines. Call me contrary. As I lose my Wachaucentric weltanschauung, I become more fascinated with Burgenland, with Weinviertl, with Thermenregion.
A real delight. I’m guessing that there’s some carbonic maceration going on here- the wine has a nice deep color, but is rather medium-bodoed and quite light on its feet. Intense nose of black pepper and blueberries, almost Syrah-like. Not particularly complex, but snappy and delicious. Damn, that bottle is already empty???
Oh, yes, and about $6.
