1985 Jaboulet “La Chapelle” Hermitage

The nose sports a distinct herbal quality, which reminded me strongly of the smell from Faurie’s Meal bottlings. Not at all unpleasant, but certainly more of that greenish scent than is the norm here. Maybe it’s the vineyard, maybe it’s the stems. There’s some weight developing, but 1985 was definitely a during a style stage for Jaboulet which had less emphasis on sheer avoirdupois. Hitting the beginning of its maturity. Moe Curly, with Double Curly potential.
