Rose and Blush wines

1997 Melton "Rose of Virginia": No, it's a light red. No, it's a rose'. Hold on, you two! says the schizo, you're both right! Off-red, that's what I'll call it, made from grenache. Enormous, phosphorescent cherry-berry fruitiness, bright acidity, no residual sugar but the fruit'll fool you. Heavier texture than a Tavel, but the comparison is invalid; despite the common cepage, this is clearly a marsupial. Almond Smash for adults. Today, it's stellar with a home-made Pizza Margherita. Edging toward a Triple Larry. SY

'97 Sierra Vista "Belle Rose" ($10): A rose made up of Mourvedre', Cinsault and Grenache. Lean, spicy aromas and flavors with some red fruit. The varietals don't seem to have gelled yet. Not a great wine but if you're a fan of rose's, then it's worth giving this a try.
