1995 Middelvlei Stellenbosch Pinotage

Just back from South Africa, one soul popped a ’95 Middelvlei Stellenbosch Pinotage. After now having tasted 30 or 40 pinotages in the past 6 months, I’m convinced that the grape smells exactly like brett- otherwise, the coincidence would be too great. Besides the usual gamey aromas and tannic mouthfeel, this particular pinotage had a distinct earthy-cheesy aroma and flavor, vaguely reminiscent of a Taurasi.
